NewVa Adobe User Group (Roanoke / NRV)

A community of Flex, ColdFusion, and ActionScript developers in the Roanoke and New River Valleys

Upcoming Events

Welcome

We welcome all developers in Roanoke and the NRV who use the Adobe stack (ColdFusion, Flash, Flex, ActionScript).

Location

NewVa is the “brand” for the Roanoke Valley / New River Valley / Allegheny Highlands region chosen by the Roanoke Valley - Allegheny Regional Commission.  I supposed this is easier to say than Roanoke/NRV.  As the RBTC is trying to push thinking of this region as one collective entity when it comes to technology and innovation, it makes sense to do the same with our Adobe User Group.

Technologies

Since this region likely doesn’t have more than 500,000 residents, it makes sense to form a general purpose Adobe User Group instead of a specialized Flex User Group or Flash User Group or ColdFusion User Group.  It is understood, however, that the focus of the group will be geared towards Flash/Flex/AS3/ColdFusion and complimentary technologies in the Adobe stack.  There may be room for some non-Adobe web development related activities, but in order to maintain status as an official Adobe UG, this will likely be limited.

Management

The group will be co-managed by Joe Brislin (@_jobu) and David Woods (@david_woods).  Joe is President at BlueRidge Interactive in Roanoke and David is the Senior Creative Developer at Modea in Blacksburg.  Managers will be responsible for securing meeting locations, coordinating with Adobe, providing guidance and direction at monthly meetings, and encouraging group members to present interesting topics.

Meetings

Meetings will take place once a month.  The initial plan is to host half of the meetings in Roanoke and half in the NRV.  Two possibilities are SiteVision and Modea, as these are the co-manager’s respective employers.  SiteVision can accomodate approximately 12 people and Modea can accomodate ___.

Other possibilities: Virginia Western campus, CRC, Rackspace, Roanoke College
